Federal parliament has rubber-stamped the Turnbull government's trimmed-down suite of welfare cuts.

The package, which includes a freeze on family tax benefits rates, is expected to save $2.4 billion over four years to help fund changes to childcare subsidies.

Labor voted against the legislation despite it being a shadow of the government's much-maligned omnibus bill.
