Transgender escort gave man HIV: police
West Australian police are trying to extradite from NSW a 38-year-old transgender sex worker who allegedly gave a client HIV.
The escort, who is a man but identifies as a woman, was diagnosed with HIV in August 2014.
The client was diagnosed in September last year and complained to police.
"Despite the diagnoses and counselling about treatment options and disclosure obligations, the woman allegedly participated in unprotected sex with a male client from early 2015," WA Police said in a statement.
They say the accused had been working in the Redfern area and was arrested at a Surry Hills hotel on Tuesday.
The woman is due to appear in Sydney's Central Local Court later on Thursday, charged with grievous bodily harm.
NSW Sex Crime Squad detectives are continuing inquiries into her activities in Sydney.
WA Police say they have liaised with the Department of Health during the investigation, and urge anyone with concerns about their health to seek medical advice.
