Four hospitalised after two trams collide in Melbourne's CBD

Four people including a 2-year-old girl have been taken to hospital, with more than a dozen people assessed after a Melbourne CBD tram crash.

Authorities were called to Bourke and Spencer Streets about 2.30pm today after one tram collided with another from behind near Southern Cross Station.

It is believed 15 people, including six children, suffered minor injuries and were assessed by paramedics.

The 2-year-old girl was taken to Royal Children's Hospital in a stable condition.

Two other adults were taken to Royal Melbourne Hospital in a stable condition, while another was taken to The Alfred Hospital.

Yarra Trams said the 86 and 96 routes, which both travel on Bourke Street, were both diverted, but have since resumed as normal.

Passenger Yasmin tweeted she experienced the "traumatising" accident first hand.

"Left the scene but still shaking. Hope everyone is okay. That was traumatising," she posted today.
