Traffic chaos after truck carrying excavator hits sprinkler in Sydney's Airport Tunnel

Motorists are experiencing heavy delays near Sydney airport after a truck carrying an excavator hit water sprinklers inside a tunnel.

One of three southbound lanes on General Holmes Drive has been closed as crews work to repair the sprinkler inside the Airport Tunnel.

Further lane closures may be needed as repairs continue.

Motorists are advised to exercise caution and allow extra travel time.
