Tourists injured after rockfall at popular Greek beach

At least seven people have been injured after a rockfall at a popular beach on the Greek Island of Zakynthos.

Video footage shows beach-goers running in panic as part of a cliff peels off the rock wall at the end of Navagio beach, tumbling to the sand.

The injuries suffered by those closest to the cliff were non-threatening, Greek authorities said.

A Czech woman suffered back injuries and was taken to hospital, another six people, including two children were treated for minor injuries.

An air and sea search was conducted as a precaution in case there was anyone trapped under the rocks.

A couple of small vessels overturned from the force of the fall and the subsequent high waves.

Navagio is one of the island’s main attractions, with the beach featuring a shipwreck on the shore.

The whole beach is surrounded by steep cliffs and can only be reached by boat.
