With one in 10 Australian workers planning on changing their jobs this year, the top five jobs with the strongest wage growth have been revealed.

An Australian recruitment firm has predicted the top five job fields for 2018 are machine learning/artificial intelligence, infrastructure project directors, digital designers, healthcare workers and data analytics and security.

According to the Robert Walters Salary Survey, technology and infrastructure industries will be the two major drivers for job growth this year.

Robert Walters recruitment expert Andrew Hanson a person looking for a new career should consider

“As always, supply and demand are going to drive these things,” Mr Hanson said on TODAY.

“In machine learning and AI it’s a hugely growing area. New technologies, engineers and developers in this space are very hard to come by which is why they are in number one.”

Mr Hanson said infrastructure roles, particularly in New South Wales, Western Australia and Queensland were set to experience double-digit growth thanks to heavy state and federal investment in road and rail projects.

“Civil engineers, project managers and all the skilled trades off the back of it will do well,” he said.

“Australian Bureau of Statistics have come out and said that’s the biggest area for wage growth.

“Behind that, I think we’re looking at an aging population and also mental health investment by the government.”

The jobs that are not expected to see growth this year include qualified accountants and marketing positions.
