Abbott says the carbon tax repeal is among his biggest achievements as Minister for Women

Prime Minister Tony Abbott says the carbon tax repeal is one of his biggest achievements in the role of Minister for Women in 2014.

The prime minister, who appeared on the TODAY show this morning to discuss his cabinet reshuffle, was asked by host Lisa Wilkinson to name his top achievement in his role as Minister for Women.

"Well you know it's very important to do the right thing by families and households and as many of us know women are particularly focused on the household budget and the repeal of the carbon tax means a 550 dollar a year benefit for the average family," Mr Abbott said.

Mr Abbott also spruiked his paid parental leave scheme, child care improvements and promotions in Sunday's reshuffle.

"Now we've got our fair dinkum paid parental leave scheme. which will be coming into the parliament in the new year," Mr Abbott said.

"We've got improvements to child care and obviously I was very pleased that I was able to promote three women in my own ministry yesterday."

Yesterday NSW MP Sussan Ley took charge of the health and sport portfolios, becoming the second woman on the frontbench after Foreign Affairs Minister Julie Bishop.

Queensland MP Karen Andrews was made Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Industry and Science and Victorian MP Kelly O'Dwyer was appointed Parliamentary Secretary to the Treasurer.

The new frontbench team will be sworn in on Tuesday, and would "reset and refocus the government for the coming year", Mr Abbott said yesterday.

"This is a good team. It is a strong team. It is a balanced team," he told reporters in Canberra.

"It will put jobs and families at the heart of our political agenda for 2015."
