Toddler struck and killed by taxi in Qld

A toddler has died after being run over by a taxi in a tragic accident on Queensland's Gold Coast.

The one-year-old boy had just got out of the maxi-taxi with his 38-year-old aunt and three young siblings when he was killed, police say.

The family group had just returned from a shopping trip when the boy somehow fell under a wheel as the taxi was driving away.

"Due to the injuries there was pretty much zero chance of any medical intervention chance of being successful," a police officer told Seven News.

The boy's parents, who are out of the country, have been notified.

The taxi driver is distraught and was taken with the aunt to hospital suffering from shock.
