Toddler dies in Queanbeyan apartment fire in south-east NSW

A one-year-old girl has died in an apartment fire in Queanbeyan, in New South Wales’ south-east.

Emergency services were called to the apartment on Mowatt Street, Queanbeyan East, after reports of a unit fire, around 2.45pm today.

A 22-year-old woman and a three-year-old boy were rescued from the blaze.

They were treated for burns and smoke inhalation on the scene and taken to Canberra Hospital for further treatment.

Three police officers were also treated for smoke inhalation.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze and subsequently located the body of a one-year-old girl.

The cause of the fire is yet to be determined.

A crime scene has since been established at the address and a report will be prepared for the coroner.
