Polar blast heading for eastern states

Temperatures are set to plunge below freezing in the eastern states in coming days as a polar blast rolls through.

A polar blast will bring the cold to central Victoria tomorrow, before expanding into central and eastern New South Wales and south-east Queensland later in the week.

Miriam Bradbury from the Bureau of Meteorology told Today temperatures of below five and six degrees would be widespread.

In some areas, they could even drop below zero, triggering frost warnings.

"Definitely pull out the extra doona," Bradbury said.
