Government 'doesn't care' about Triple Zero staff shortages

A Victorian man whose father died after waiting 40 minutes for an ambulance to arrive said the government "doesn't care" and Premier Daniel Andrews "doesn't want to listen".

David Edwards told Today he had no correspondence from authorities about why the ambulance didn't show up other than a single phone call from the head of the department saying "it was Telstra's fault".

Last month, the Victorian Government announced the state's Triple Zero call-taker ESTA will receive a $115.6 million cash injection to hire more staff to cope with delays, which have seen 12 people die waiting for help since October.

But David said not only was he angry over what happened to his father Alfred, he is "savage" about it.

"It's not good enough because people are dying on these politicians' watches," he said.

"They are elected to be leaders, it is about time they stand up and lead.

"They're not doing their jobs properly. They are useless."

David said there is just talk around the problem now because of the federal election and he doesn't believe anything will come from a report into the deaths.

"It will just sit on some bench that's a bit stinky, that's why they don't want to release it," he said.

"I don't think there's anything good they want to have come out of it.

"They don't want to tell the story."
