Batman surprises kids in flood-ravaged community

There has been no shortage of heroes coming together to help their local communities hit hard by heavy floods across Victoria, but one man has taken it to the next level.

Batman himself has been visiting the families of Shepparton to cheer them up after the town was inundated by floodwaters this week.

Peter Bonnes told Today "the kids couldn't have been happier" when he surprised them in the caped crusader's costume, armed with lolly bags donated by others in the community.

"They were just elated - that is what it was all about, to just help take their minds of what is going on at the moment and give them a bit of hope for tomorrow," Bonnes told Today.

Bonnes said he noticed children are always more resilient than they are given credit for, but some of them were clearly very upset.

"Some of these kids have lost all their toys, all their clothes, their bed, everything, so clearly they are traumatised and anxious," he said.

"But the majority of the kids, yeah, very resilient and they are doing really well."
