Competitive 'Husband Caller' blows the speakers yelling at Karl

In a competition like no other, the Iowa State Fair in the US put a call out for women who can yell their husband's name loudly.

The skill is known as "Husband Calling" and the competition rewards women who can shout their partner's name the loudest.

Long-time fair attendee Virginia Stone was one of the finalists at this year's competition and she revealed to Today what her secret is to perfecting the skill.

"Well, I actually shouldn't admit this, but I have a masters degree in vocal performance, so I use a lot of that technique in my husband call," she said.

"I have kind of revised it for the actual competition so I sing some classical stuff before I go into the actual call and that's kind of like my new version because the previous version was getting kind of old."

Not that Aussie women need a hand in being able to yell their husband's name, but Karl and Sarah asked Virginia if she had any tips for them.

"Well, the big thing is just be yourself," Virginia said.

"Don't try to do anything that's not natural and then just let it rip.

"That is the big thing, don't be self-conscious - it's not a contest for people that are self-conscious about doing stuff like this."

Sarah asked Virginia if she'd be able to "Husband Call" Karl and she definitely "let it rip" with the Today team pretty sure she blew the speakers with her effort.
