WA surfer survives 'bit of a tussle' with three-metre shark
An Aussie surfer has survived a terrifying shark encounter off WA's south coast, with the predator charging at his board and ripping a huge chunk from it.
Dale Kittow was catching waves at Cheynes Beach yesterday, about 68 kilometres east of Albany, when he first saw the shark in the face of an approaching wave.
But he tried to stay calm without taking his eyes off the three-metre bronze whaler.

"I just sat on my board and it circled me a few times before it charged at me," Dale told Today.
"I jumped off the back and shoved the board in its face and had a bit of a tussle with it."
During the battle, Dale said his board's leg rope got caught on the shark and it pulled him under the water a few times, so he punched it as hard as he could and he managed to get loose.
Luckily, Dale managed to hurry back to the shore and when he did - he saw the large bite mark in the side of his board.
"It was a bit of a miracle, really, I was lucky to see it when I did so I could keep my eyes on it and move when I had to," he said.
