Scrape between truck and car divides the nation

A scrape involving a truck and a car in Sydney has caused a big debate over who is at fault.

In a video that was sent in to 2GB, a parked silver car is seen pulling out of a lane on the corner of Redfern and George St. It indicates, tries to turn and as they round the corner the truck scrapes the side of the car.

It is the accident that has divided the nation. The Today hosts were divided as well, but NSW Police have now determined who is in the wrong.

"The police are saying that the driver needed to look and give way before pulling out. It is definitive," Ally Langdon said.

Karl Stefanovic wasn't so sure.

"I still think it's the truck's fault."

NSW Police Chief Inspector Phil Brooks tells Ben Fordham the car is in the wrong.

"The car driver really needs to give way."

2GB presenter Chris Smith said the car is technically at fault, but it's a blurry case.

"Technically it is the car's fault because any move from the kerb, even not moving from lane to lane, requires an indicator. So that is technically at fault. However, in the toing and froing and thrust of ordinary traffic, I think it's ok. He was in his own lane, the truck should have stayed in his," he told Today.
