Robert Irwin may be popping up on TV screens more and more, and taking on a raft of hosting roles including this year's TikTok Awards, but he will always remain a wildlife warrior at heart.

The 20-year-old joined Today hosts, Karl and Sarah, to chat about his passion for conservation and the latest developments around Australia Zoo.

But to his and Queensland native Karl's surprise, Sarah revealed she's actually never been to the zoo.

"I can fix that, I know a guy - we can sort that out," Robert said.

With six million followers on Instagram and millions of views on TikTok, it's no wonder Robert was chosen to host the TikTok Awards ceremony.

And he said it's all part of carrying on that Irwin wildlife warrior legacy.

"It really started with mum and dad on cable television with The Crocodile Hunter and now the big audience is social media, it's TikTok where you can get the message out," he said.

"So for me, it's such an honour to host the TikTok Awards coming up on November 27, so it's a new challenge, something different and I'm really stoked for it, because it's really become, for me, one of the biggest ways to spread positivity with the world - so I'm I'm honoured to say the least."

Karl was eager to collaborate on a TikTok video with Robert, but his suggestion to have "Sarah swimming with crocodiles" did not go down well.

"Let's start with feeding the crocs first, I reckon," Robert said.

"The idea is to not end up in the water with them, it happens every now and again, but we won't do that for your first go, Sarah - we won't throw you right in the deep end."
