NSW town 'cut in two' by wall of water as flood concerns remain

Concern remains high for residents in the NSW Central West after a severe weather system caused intense flooding in several communities overnight.

Eugowra resident, Mat Reid said it was like the town had been "cut in half" with the eastern side hit hardest while most of those living on the western side were able to get to higher ground.

"Within three hours the water was rushing through, bringing hay bales down, water tanks, sheds, any debris, deluge coming down the water came straight through the town," Mat told Today.

Mat said the community was trying to stay strong, but the situation was tough on a lot of people.

"You could see the emotion sinking in throughout the day, yesterday," he said.

"Fatigue, emotional fatigue in particular. It is a very sad time, I've got friends sleeping in cars at the showground. Our heart goes out to those guys."

Authorities said the Lachlan Valley and Eugowra remained a concern and evacuation orders were in place for Forbes.
