Local NT fisherman 'gets the job done' during run-in with crocodile

A Northern Territory local said it was "just a little bit of pressure" when a giant crocodile tried steal his dad's catch during a recent fishing trip.

Scott Roscarel and his dad were having a slow day of fishing at Cahill's Crossing when his father finally reeled in a large barramundi.

But a giant crocodile caught sight of the fish and got a little too close for comfort and try and steal it from them.

"I was just sitting in the shade relaxing and the old boy ended up hooking this fish so I came over to give him a hand and once we saw the croc he's like 'I'm not going to get this in in time mate you'll have to take over,'" Scott told Today.

"He put the rod in my hands, there was a little bit of pressure, but we got the job done."

Scott said he wasn't too worried about what would happen if the crocodile got hold of him and said he had too much adrenaline running in his body.

"I wasn't really thinking much at all. The sole focus was getting the fish in," he said.

Scott did share some advice he received from locals on what he should do if the crocodile did grab him or his father during the ordeal.

"If you ever get attacked by a crocodile what you do is you stick your finger in their bum and they get shamed and they swim away," he told an unexpecting Karl and Ally.

"What a legend. Have you ever tried that before?" Karl asked.

"No, no, well, I'm too quick, they haven't got hold of me yet." he replied.

From what viewers can see in the video, Scott's father also seemed quite calm and relaxed at the confrontation with the large reptile.

He even tried to go back in and retrieve Scott's hat for him after his son successfully got the barramundi back in the heart-stopping tousle.

"He ran in to get my hat I was like 'mate, what are you doing?' I have 15 hats at home (but) I've only got one father," Scott said.

While it was one of the duo's more exciting fishing trips, Scott confirmed they did release the barramundi back into the river when they were done.

"We released it back into the wild. I don't like killing big fish like that, they're too beautiful."
