A Kiwi expat has assured she still loves living in Australia after going viral on TikTok over how expensive it is across the pond.

Gabby Snell didn't realise how much more pricey it was to own a car in Oz, compared to where she grew up in New Zealand.

So when she posted a video on social media pointing the difference out, it divided opinion over whether it is "too expensive to live in Australia".

"I think it's just the cost of having a car, like I thought Australia and New Zealand were quite similar," she told Today.

"Okay, my fault because I didn't do a lot of research, like it might be cheaper to buy a car, but you pay for your rego, there's all these insurances and I just didn't realise, that's probably the main thing."

Gabby said cost of living was a bit more affordable in Australia, but being a first year apprentice, everything is expensive for her.

"I was just taking the Mickey and having a joke on my TikTok and it obviously reached all the news reporters and they kind of twisted it a wee bit," she said.

"And that sent a lot of angry people my way, so fair enough, I get it, a lot of people can relate to me, but a lot of people are a bit annoyed at me too."

"I absolutely love it here, I promise you, I wouldn't be here if I didn't," she said.

"I've wanted to live in Australia my whole life, I remember begging my mum when I was seven and I finally moved over by myself and it's been unreal."
