Kim Kardashian and Kanye West were arguably one of the most famous couples of the 21st century, with the former Hollywood power couple responsible for making countless headlines - both good and bad - over the years.

After two years of dating, they officially tied the knot in 2014 in a lavish ceremony in Florence, Italy.

But after welcoming four children together, the relationship didn't last and eight years later, their divorce was finalised.

Now, a new two-part documentary, Kim vs Kanye: The Divorce, looks at what went wrong in the marriage - from both parties' perspectives.

Director Marc English told Today Extra he got an exclusive interview with two of Kanye's divorce lawyers which gave him an insight into the rapper's mental health at the time of the split.

"We found out some extraordinary things about Kanye and his attitude towards the split with Kim Kardashian," he said.

"Perhaps one of the most interesting things was that Kanye didn't want to get divorced - he was a man who fought tooth and nail over the two years of this divorce battle to keep the relationship going."

But while Kanye was desperate to continue the relationship and "refused to see the finality of it", ultimately Kim wanted out.

The Binge documentary also addresses the anti-Semitic comments Kanye came under fire for a year ago and looks at how his actions around that time were connected to what he was going through in the breakdown of his marriage.

"That's the one thing that I was particularly interested in, was how Kanye's mental health struggles have been covered in the wider media and could we look at his actions and look at some of his public pronouncements through the prism of his mental health," English said.
