For most people, February 14 is a day to celebrate love and Saint Valentine, but here at Nine, it's also the day Karl Stefanovic first took the reins on Today.

This morning marks 20 years since Karlos officially joined the breakfast television family and there were more than a few big-name stars on hand to congratulate him.

"We all love you so much, Australia loves you so much, people tune in to watch Today because they want to see you Karlos," co-host, Sarah Abo said.

"They want to hear from you, they want to appreciate who you are and what you've given us all."

There were also some big overseas names who sent Karlos special video messages to mark the occasion.

"Hello Karl, it's me President Trump, I took time out of my very busy schedule to wish you a very happy 20th anniversary," Donald Trump ( it was totally him) said.

'President Trump', ahem... wished Karl a happy 20 years. Today

"You're the only person in Australian media who has done the double of winning the gold Logie and eating the world's hottest pie," Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said.

But while there were some big names in the political world who called in, there were some surprise messages sent through as well.

"Would you believe, I have received a very special scroll from Buckingham Palace," The Telegraph's royal editor, Camilla Tominey said.

It read: "I'd have given you a knighthood for services to broadcasting, but Malcolm Turnbull put a stop to that, lots of love - Charles R."

Even little Harper, Karl's four-year-old congratulated him, saying: "Congratulations daddy we love you so much!"

But with all the sass and larrakinism Karlos has dished out over the years, we of course had some zingers lined up to throwq his way.

"I've known you since you were reporting up in Cairns, when you still had all your real hair," KIIS host Kyle Sandilands said.

"You started when I was one-years-old, I remember it like it was yesterday," Wildlife Warrior, Robert Irwin said.

And we couldn't celebrate Karl's anniversary without a special message from his favourite frenemy, controversial commentator, Piers Morgan.

"I want to wish you a very, very happy anniversary - 20 years in the hotseat at Today and wow, has it taken a toll on your body - you look about 80," Morgan said.

"I did breakfast TV for five years and it nearly killed me, so the fact you're still alive is a miracle and the fact you're still doing it so brilliantly is another miracle.

"You're one of the best in the world at this game, I love watching you, I love being on with you and I wish you another 20 years if you live that long - which is probably about as likely as Australia retaining the Ashes this winter."
