With his slow and steady recovery, it has been a while since Farnham tested his vocal chords, but his long-time friend Gaynor Wheatley had an exciting update on whether or not the music legend would perform again.

"As soon as I saw him in the studio doing the audiobook and as soon as he got behind the microphone, the twinkle was in the eye," she told Today.

"That's when I thought, you know, we're still in with a shot and he can still sing, his voice box is still great, there's just a few more things to do with the mouth recovery, but we all know he's as strong as a boxer so if he wants to do something, he'll do it.

"If I say to him, 'You won't sing, you can't sing, what a shame', then he'll go, 'Yes I can, I'll prove you wrong'."

There have been some incredible highs and lows dotted throughout Farnham's career and life and the new memoir's co-author, Poppy Stockell, told Today she had the privilege of getting his wife Jill to write a couple of chapters too.

And a big contributor to Farnham's longevity was how he kept his family life private, which allowed those loved ones to keep him grounded.

"Jill is fantastic, she's an absolute classic and she's so fun and a fantastic storyteller," Stockell said.

"He'd go on a long tour and everyone would be doing everything for him and when he got home, she'd give him a day or two to settle then she'd say, 'Do you want a cup of tea?' He'd say, 'That'd be lovely, thanks' and she'd say, 'The kettle is over there and you can pick up the dog poo and take out the bins while you're at it'."
