Jack Whitehall brings family along for new Aussie tour

They say you shouldn't work with family, but for British funnyman Jack Whitehall, travelling with his parents has turned into a comedy of its own.

And Aussie fans can enjoy the shenanigans of Jack, his dad Michael and mum Hilary, with the trio in town for a series of local live stand up shows.

"This show is us on stage, airing all of our dirty laundry and throwing each other under the bus," Jack told Today.

"I describe it as being like a cross between an episode of The Crown and Jerry Springer."

Jack admitted he was "walking a bit of a tightrope" unleashing his dad on a live stage with him, but he just hoped Michael doesn't wind up getting him cancelled in Australia.

"I never know what's going to come out of his mouth," Jack said.

"At the beginning of the tour I said 'Please don't get me cancelled in Australia, because if you get me cancelled in England, the exit plan is that I come to Australia and if you get me cancelled in Australia, I've got nowhere to go.'"

Jack admitted the live shows are fun because his dad is so "unengaged in the process" and undermines everything he loves.

"I have this personality where if someone approaches me, I feel like I always have to be on, but people come up to him and he's really rude to them," he said.

"I took him to a cricket match recently and this woman came up and asked for a selfie, and he told her to f--- off, I thought 'that's terrible, he's going to get in so much trouble for that', but he just does not give a stuff."
