What's happening in entertainment news today

This time yesterday, we were basking in the afterglow of the Trump inauguration and festivities and predicting the demise of the person in charge of the audio, which left Carrie Underwood and Billy Ray Cyrus both without a backing track.

Well, Billy Ray has shot back, defending his lacklustre performance, saying "I wouldn't have missed the honour of playing this event whether my microphone, guitar and monitors worked or not - I was there because President Donald J Trump invited me".

He went on to say, "I've learnt through all these years when the producer says, you're on, you go entertain the folks, even if the equipment goes to hell - I was there for the people and we had a blast, that's called rock n roll".

And award season rolls on, this time it's the iHeart Radio Awards and they don't muck around this lot.

All the favourites are getting a bit of a nod; up for artist of the year are Billie Eilish, Doja Cat, Jelly Roll, Kendrick Lamar, Morgan Wallen, Post Malone, Sabrina Carpenter, SZA, Taylor Swift of course and Teddy Swims.

They've also got some special honours on the evening, with Lady Gaga to receive the Innovator Award and Mariah Carey to take home the Icon Award - no argument there.

There's even a nomination for Travis Kelce for his appearance at the Eras Tour in the "favourite surprise guest" category.

He's also nominated in that category for his walk on during Morgan Wallen's show in Missouri.

The iHeart Radio Awards are on at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, March 18, our time.

To our legal files and singer Chris Brown has filed a $US500 million lawsuit against Warner Bros over last year's documentary, Chris Brown A History of Violence.

The doco details his long history of legal woes, the battery of ex-girlfriend Rihanna and the many other accusations against him.

Brown alleges it was, quote, "full of lies and deception and violating basic journalistic principles", so we'll be keeping our eye on that one.

And Timothee Chalamet has poked fun at the doppelganger trend that took ahold of the internet last year, with a new promo for his much anticipated Saturday Night Live appearance this weekend. Have a look at this.
