A deserving couple from Sydney's west have been brought to tears after they were surprised with $10,000 in Today's Have A Go Hero giveaway.

Dierdre and Barry Gavin have been fostering children in need for over 20 years and with their own health problems over the years, haven't been on a holiday in over four decades.

So Today, in collaboration with TPG, decided to make a trip away possible for the great-grandparents, by gifting them a cheque to spend however they please.

Barry and Dierdre's grandchildren, Hayley and Sam and great-grandchildren joined Today's Taylor Haynes to knock on theor door in Penrith this morning and surprise them with the good news.

"We've been fostering 25 years and have had 155 children in our care, in fact, we're getting a little boy on Wednesday who is just four-months-old," Dierdre said, still in shock from the news of her prize.

"They give everything they've got to everyone else but themselves, so it's really lovely for them to get something to have for themselves," granddaughter Hayley said, wiping tears from her eyes.
