Wild way this Gold Coast mum broke a Guinness World Record

If being a contortionist, gymnast and master archer wasn't impressive enough, Shannen Michaela has combined all these skills to break a Guinness World Record.

The Gold Coast mum told Today her parents started her in gymnastics at the age of five, then that led to circus performing and she bought her first bow at 16-years-old.

From there, she learned how to shoot the arrow with her feet (before she could with her hands) and has been fine-tuning her acrobatic archery talents ever since.

"I've spent thousands of hours practicing, I can't tell you how many shots that I've done over and over and over and over," she said.

And in 2022, Shannen broke the Guinness World Record for shooting an arrow the farthest with her feet, hitting a bull's eye 18.27 metres away while doing a handstand.

"It took me 11 shots, I needed the bull's eye and the previous record was at 13.5 metres, so I really got a great deal of a distance further to beat it," she said.

On top of her acrobatic archery, Shannen is also mum to a 14-month-old and is starring in a new live circus show, Cirque Bon Bon.

'It's great for families, great for date night, a night out with the girls, it's just a really world-class circus show, which I recommend for everyone," she said.

"It's colourful, funny and we've got a really strong Australian line-up, but also some really amazing international performers coming in."
