What to watch on streaming services this week

It's that time of the week where we go through the streaming services and pick the best new releases ripe for watching.

From superheroes, to thrillers, and charming rom-coms; this week there's something for everyone.

What If

Marvel are flipping the switch on their most famous stories.

In their brand new series, What If, the show re-imagines major events in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and it's all overseen by 'The Watcher' - voiced by the incredible Jeffrey Wright.

Alongside Wright are all our favourite actors from the Marvel Universe, including; Mark Ruffalo, Natalie Portman and Sebastian Stan. It also features the final voice recording from the late Chadwick Boseman.

The first episode is streaming now on Disney+.

Reservation Dogs

New Zealand's Taika Waititi is the brains behind new comedy series Reservation Dogs.

The show follows four Indigenous teens living in rural Oklahoma who will stop at nothing to get to California.

The first two episodes are on Binge.

Beckett

John David Washington stars in Netflix's new film about an American tourist who becomes the target of a manhunt after a terrible accident.

Beckett premieres on the 13th.

The Kissing Booth 3

Also on Netflix is the next instalment of The Kissing Booth movies.

In this third film, Elle has a difficult decision to make – move across the country with her boyfriend Noah, or fulfil her promise to go to college with her best friend Lee.

Godfather of Harlem

Season two of acclaimed series Godfather of Harlem has resumed on Stan.

The show is inspired by the true story of crime boss Bumpy Johnson, played by Forest Whitaker, and will feature Whoopi Goldberg.

Heels

New series Heels follows two rival brothers chasing their dreams in the world of small town pro-wrestling.

It premieres on Sunday, August 15, only on Stan.

Covert Affairs

The first full season of Covert Affairs is available to stream for free on 9Now.

Annie Walker is a young CIA trainee who is unexpectedly promoted to field operative and thrown into the inner workings of the agency.

Infinite

Paramount+ is now available in Australia and features Mark Wahlberg's new film, Infinite.

The streaming site also hosts Game of Thrones star Maisie William's new series Two Weeks To Live and the reboot of hit Nickelodeon sitcom, iCarly.

Vera

Hit British series Vera is back for a tenth season on Britbox.

In season 10, Vera investigates a series of new mysteries including the odd death of a teenage boy at a salmon farm and the murder of a wealthy gambling magnate.

Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa

Also on Britbox is Steve Coogan's hilarious film Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa.

Apple TV+ have a brand new series premiering on Friday.

Coda

Coda stars Emilia Jones as Ruby Rossi, the only hearing member of a completely deaf family.

The feature film follows Ruby as she struggles to choose between her family's troubled fishing business and following her dream as a choir singer.

My pick of the week: Modern Love

And Kit Harington, Anna Paquin, Lucy Boynton and Minnie Driver are among the star-studded cast of the second season of Modern Love.

The anthology series brings to life stories from the New York Times column of the same name.

It premieres on Amazon Prime Video this Friday.
