Mud-slinging politicians called out in aftermath of Albanese Qantas perks saga

Anthony Albanese is in damage control, denying he ever "called" former Qantas CEO Alan Joyce to ask for personal flight upgrades.

The Prime Minister's office released a carefully-worded statement overnight emphatically denying the claims which have been put to Albanese several times in the past five days since the news broke.

Nationals Senator, Bridget McKenzie was also forced to launch an internal inquiry and check with airlines if she had received multiple business class upgrades after calling Albanese out on it and denying on Today she'd requested any.

Opposition leader, Peter Dutton has also taken the opportunity to recommend the Prime Minister refer himself to an investigation over his actions and Tasmanian Senator, Chris McKim told Today Albanese "needs to come clean".

But while the mud-slinging and finger pointing continues between politicians of all ilk in the aftermath, 2GB Drive host, Chris O'Keefe has called them all out on it.

"I don't care if Anthony Albanese is a minister or Prime Minister, he ended up at the pointy part of the plane and it's just a big swamp," he told Today.

"Nick McKim is in the swamp, Senator McKenzie is in the swamp and if you want to drain it, well, good luck, because they're all as swampy as each other and the hypocrisy of having a shot at one bloke simply because he's the Prime Minister, we saw it with Scott Morrison too.

"The same thing happened when the other mob were in Opposition, too and I just find the hypocrisy nauseating."
