Tiahleigh Palmer's killer forced to move jail over possible threat to his life

The Queensland man convicted over the murder of his 12-year-old foster daughter Tiahleigh Palmer has been forced to move jails over concerns for his safety.

Logan resident Rick Thorburn was found guilty over Tiahleigh's murder and sentenced to life in prison in May.

He has since been transferred from Southern Queensland Correctional Centre in Gatton to Woodford Correctional Centre during the past month, the Courier Mail reports.

The transfer was initiated over concerns Thorburn would become "a victim of jail murder", a prison officer said.

Thorburn was said to have been in hiding in Gatton jail's safety unit and was on suicide watch for months in the lead up to the move.

Safety units are cells that exist in isolation from other prisoners.

It is understood Thorburn will also seek refuge at a safety unity at the Woodford prison, prior to another shift to Wolston Correctional Centre.

Police said Thorburn killed his foster daughter in an attempt to conceal the fact his biological son Trent had sexually assaulted her.

He will be eligible for parole in 2036.
