The trapped driver and two passengers began honking the horn to raise the alarm.

Passing motorist Bilal Mohtadi came to the their aid.

“The passengers were stuck, they were holding down the horn so I pulled over, no one else was pulling over so I thought I’d give it a look,” Mr Mohtadi told 9NEWS.

All three passengers were taken to hospital after being freed from the wreckage. One is in serious condition.

Police are still searching for the driver of other vehicle.

It is believed the two cars may have been racing at the time of the crash.
