Three people badly burned after explosion at Queensland abattoir

Three men have suffered severe burns after an explosion at an Ipswich meatworks this morning.

The blast went off in the switchboard room of the Lock Way Street, Riverview, facility about 9am.

The three workers suffered serious second and third degree burns to their upper bodies.

They were taken in a stable condition to the Royal Brisbane Hospital.

Two others were taken to Ipswich Hospital suffering from the effects of smoke inhalation.

Investigations into the cause of the explosion are ongoing.
