South Australian skier dies in tragic slope accident

A skier has died after hitting a low-hanging branch at Thredbo in New South Wales.

The 68-year-old South Australian man was skiing with friends at the popular resort in the states Jindabyne region.

He was unable to be revived and died at the scene.

Police say the man was traversing near the Thredbo super trail, the third-longest run in Australia when he hit the tree.

Thredbo general manager Stuart Diver said in a statement that the resort was "deeply saddened" by the tragic event.

"Thredbo Ski Patrol and a Thredbo Medical Centre doctor promptly attended the scene," he said.  "The Thredbo community extends its heartfelt condolences to the male's family and friends."

Police from Monaro Police District said officers will examine all circumstances surrounding the man's death and prepare a report for the Coroner.
