Thousands of Aussies stranded in Bali again due to ash cloud

Thousands of Australians are stranded in Bali after a volcanic ash cloud again forced airlines to cancel flights in and out of the holiday destination.

Virgin, Jetstar and AirAsia have all been forced to cancel flights due to ash from Mount Rinjani on the nearby island of Lombok.

In all some 700 international and domestic flights have been cancelled due to the ash.

Denpasar Airport has been closed, as well as Selaparang airport in Mataram and Blimbingsari airport in Banyuwangi.

Jetsar has cancelled all flights before 5pm (AEDT) this afternoon, saying it will update passengers on the situation as soon as possible.

Virgin Australia has cancelled all flights before 6pm (AEDT) and will provide an update at around 12.45pm (AEDT) today.

AirAsia has asked passengers to keep checking the airline's website and social media pages for updates.
