Thousands lose power in Queensland storm
Energex is working to restore power to thousands of home after a band of fierce storms hit Queensland’s south this afternoon.
The south-east was hit with 2500 lightning strikes in just a few hours, with 13,000 customers losing power across Brisbane and Moreton Bay.
Heavy rain caused commuter chaos, both in Brisbane and on the Gold Coast but was a welcome boost for farmers in Boonah.

Coincidently, Brisbane Lord Mayor Graham Quirk today announced four new sandbagging machines ahead of the summer storm season.
“We can have flooding at any time, we do need to stay on our guard,” he said.
