Up to 7000 homes and businesses remain without power in Sydney and the Central Coast after intense storms yesterday afternoon knocked down powerlines and claimed the life of a man.

Ausgrid said emergency services were working to restore power to 3000 addresses in the Sydney area and 4000 on the Central Coast.

Last night, 38,000 businesses and homes experienced power outages after the severe weather lashed the state.

In the Hunter region, 12,000 customers in Medowie, Tanilba Bay, West Wallsend and Cardiff were affected, while the main affected areas in Sydney were Brooklyn, East Hills, Milperra and other suburbs in the city’s south.

Some homes in Liverpool, Blacktown and Penrith are still without power.

The Hills district and the Newcastle and Hunter region are also affected with traffic lights blacked out or blinking orange.

You can check if your suburb is affected by going to the Ausgrid website.
