Two thieves used an axe to smash their way into Ashby’s KIDS childcare centre in Perth’s north today.

The office was wrecked in a matter of minutes, with cabinet doors being ripped away and a safe inside a cupboard being pulled out.

The men broke a second window to make their escape.

With so much damage, forensics and police had a big job this morning – but there was plenty of evidence left behind.

Nearby in Carramar, Happy Hands childcare centre was also trashed for the second time in a week.

Mother Ashley Wynne said her young son instantly knew something was wrong this morning.

“It’s quite sad to see him recognize that something was wrong,” she said.

Two other Perth childcare centers in recent weeks have been robbed too, in West Kinross and Tapping.

It is unknown why these businesses are being targeted, as all are cashless.

In the safe that was taken there was only petty cash for staff.

The only other valuable items stolen were an iPhone and a vacuum cleaner.
