‘Someone was sick in the head to do this’: Thieves trash memorial for conjoined twins Hope and Faith

The parents of conjoined twins Hope and Faith, who died when they were just 19 days old, have been left shattered after thieves trashed their memorials and ransacked their Sydney home.

Burglars broke a number of the girls’ mini statues and damaged a pink box kept in their parents’ bedroom during the attack on Saturday, News Corp reported.

Parents Renee Young and Simon Howie said they were “devastated” by the incident.

“We’re trying to get on with our lives, get everything back to normal and then this,” Mr Howie told News Corp.

“Someone was sick in the head to do this,” he said.

“I can’t describe it, I don’t know what they get out of coming in and breaking everything,” Ms Young said.

“They’re little things but it’s the little things that are getting me… the worst,” she said.

The tiny sisters, known as Australia’s “miracle” conjoined twins, were born on May 8 this year with identical faces and separate brains but with a shared skull and body.

The pair had an extremely rare condition known as disrosopus. They died when they were less than a month old.

Police said no one was at home at the time of the break in at the Tregear property.

Several items were stolen including four Playstations and DVDs, while plasma televisions were found up-ended and kicked in.

“They’ve taken the hard drive off the computer that’s got all the family photos on it,” Mr Howie said.

“I’m disgusted that they went through the girls’ drawers.”

It is estimated the attack caused up to $7000 worth of damage.

Police have taken fingerprint samples from around the home.
