Thief with a conscience: Brisbane armed robber admits he feels 'bad about doing it'

A man who robbed a convenience store at knifepoint in Brisbane has admitted he feels "really bad about doing it" and believes he was influenced by a bad batch of ice.

In an extraordinary interview with 9NEWS, Stanley Corbett, 21, admitted he was high on ice and desperate for money when he entered the Inala 7-Eleven store and demanded money.

"I asked for smokes and I asked him to empty the till, he looked at me funny, I lifted my shirt and told him I had a knife," Corbett said.

"I didn’t even want to be there, I should have been in bed asleep.

"I made a big mistake, it was stupid.

"I felt really bad about doing it."

Corbett said he didn’t want police "chasing him around" and instead turned himself in, even though he knew he would face jail time.

"I thought, do the right thing," he said.

Corbett said a dangerous batch of ice has seeped onto Brisbane streets and is responsible for a recent spike in crime.

"This s--- was real bad, like I mean hallucinations," he said.

"(I was) going off.

"If I could say anything to anyone that’s on it, stay the f--- away from it before you end up dead or in jail ... like me."
