The new five-dollar note’s secret power
9NEWS
The new Australian five dollar note can be used to spin vinyl records, music lovers have found.
Earlier this week, British music fans discovered the newly minted five-pound note could be used instead of a pin to play records.
Australia’s new five-dollar note was put to the same test by the National Film and Sound Archive of Australia (NFSA), and successfully played a tune.

Video shows NFSA educator Cris Kennedy using the note to spin a jazz record.
The note has musical capabilities due to its modified, sharper edges, Mr Kennedy explained.
"What you’re hearing is the note vibrating as it reads the grooves in the record," he said.
"It’s actually genius," he said.
