Alleged Melbourne terror tweeter awarded bail

An alleged terrorist sympathiser who posted chilling messages on social media is free on bail again tonight despite a public outcry.

Khodr Taha admitted targeting top political figures and threatening to kill police.

In court today, Taha admitted to a tirade of cybercrime.

Wearing a t-shirt featuring cartoon figure Spongebob Squarepants, he admitting making several threats to kill, and sent explicit and racist material.

Among his Twitter targets were some of our top politicians including the Prime Minister, the Treasurer, the Foreign Minister - who was sent a photo of a naked woman - and the Premier who was insulted and told that Taha would kill someone 

Police officers' lives were threatened and there was hate mail to two major banks.

One tweet read: "Hoping the next Aussie will be executed live."

While there was extra security outside the court today, Taha toed the line, standing when he was addressed by the magistrate and answering questions saying he understood the consequences of reoffending.

Magistrate Jelena Popovic has been criticised before for allowing his liberty, but today ordered he be allowed to remain in the community.

He must be assessed to be part of the new problem behaviour clinic which deals with stalking through Forensicare.

The magistrate emphasised Taha's strict bail conditions would remain in place.

His case was adjourned until February 24.
