Inmate at NSW's Goulburn jail charged with terror offences

Terror charges have been laid against a 19-year-old alleged Islamic State supporter at NSW's Goulburn jail.

Bourhan Hraichie was taken to Goulburn Police Station this morning and charged with making a document connected with preparation for a terrorist act, doing an act in preparation for or planning a terrorist act, and delivering a document threatening to kill a person.

The charges, laid by the NSW Joint Counter-Terrorism Team, followed the seizure of material from the correctional facility.

It is believed the charges related to alleged threats to kill NSW's prisons boss Peter Severin.

Hraichie has been returned to the jail.

"There is no threat to the community as a result of today's activity," a police statement read.

Hraichie was moved to Goulburn's Supermax prison earlier this year after allegedly carving an ISIS-inspired slogan into his cellmate's forehead and pouring boiling water onto the man's face.

Hraichie will face the Sydney Local Court on October 12 in relation to the new charges.

The NSW Joint Counter-Terrorism Team is made up of NSW Police and Australian Federal Police officers.
