Melbourne dad to face court charged with planning to ‘engage in overseas hostile activities’

A Melbourne father is expected to face court charged with planning to travel overseas to "engage in hostile activities".

Khaled Temssah, a 29-year-old father-of-two, was arrested by counter-terror police as he arrived at his Mantello Holden workplace, in Roxburgh Park in the city's north, yesterday morning.

He is set to appear in the Melbourne Magistrates Court today charged with preparing for an incursion into a foreign country for the purpose of engaging in hostile activities.

9News understands Temssah, who has worked as a car salesman for at least three years, recently returned to Australia from an overseas trip to Saudi Arabia’s Mecca.

The 29-year-old’s colleagues manager also told 9News he had become more devout in his faith since working at the site, prayed five times a day and visited a mosque on Fridays.

He also mentioned that Temssah had always spoke against violence and terrorism and described him as a very warm and friendly person.

Counter terrorism police who attended his workplace searched Temssah's office and car before taking him away for questioning.

State and federal police did not expect to make any more arrests but said the investigation was ongoing.
