US newspaper investigating after publishing 'end of days' advertisement

A US newspaper has apologised after running a full-page advertisement which predicted a biblical Armageddon, including a nuclear attack by "Islam".

A group called Future For America placed the ad in The Tennessean newspaper claiming the end times were unfolding and that Donald Trump would be the last US president.

The advertisement also claimed a nuclear detonation would be carried out in Nashville by "Islam".  

The Tennessean today published a story on its website saying the incident was being investigated.

Editor Michael A Anastasi said there had been a "breakdown" in the paper's processes.

"The ad is horrific and is utterly indefensible in all circumstances. It is wrong, period, and should have never been published," he said.

"It has hurt members of our community and our own employees and that saddens me beyond belief.

"It is inconsistent with everything The Tennessean as an institution stands and has stood for and with the journalism we have produced."

The advertisement was pulled from all future editions of the paper.

The Tennessean said the money they had paid for the ad would be donated to the American Islam Advisory Council.
