Telcos to apply for metadata funding

Telcos will be able to apply for grants to cover the cost of retaining customers' metadata for two years.
Applications open on Thursday for the $128 million grants program and close on February 23.
The government had consulted with the telecommunications industry to design the program, Acting Attorney-General Warren Truss and Communications Minister Mitch Fifield said in a statement.
