Teen's cryptic Facebook post before 'hit run incident'

A NSW teen posted a cryptic Facebook message asking for help just before she was found bloodied and dazed in the middle of the road following a suspected hit-run incident.

April-lee Gillen is in Wollongong Hospital's intensive care unit with critical head injuries after she was found lying unconscious on Northcliffe Drive in Lake Heights on early Sunday morning, the Sydney Morning Herald reports.

Earlier the 17-year-old had posted a status on Facebook saying her mobile phone was about to die and that she needed help.

"Phones on 1 percent walking from warrawong to berks (Berkeley) and some Asian guy just stopped me telling me to come home with him cause it's safe and I need help wtf sos," the status read.

It was posted shortly before 1am, when residents on Northcliff Drive reported hearing a loud bang and finding April-lee on the pavement.

Detectives are focusing on the possibility April-lee was the victim of a hit and run, Inspector Gordon Dunlop from Lake Illawarra police said.

"She's still in a pretty bad way," Insp Dunlop said.

"She is going to survive, but the extent of the injuries to her brain is still uncertain."

April-lee's status was posted to a Facebook group calling for justice for those responsible for her injuries.

Another post claimed a resident had provided video surveillance of incident to police.
