Five teenagers arrested for stealing Mercedes-Benz with knife and hammer and leading police on 80km pursuit

Five teenagers have been charged with armed robbery offences by police after allegedly threatening a man with a hammer and a knife and stealing his car yesterday.

Authorities say four males stopped a man, understood to be a well-known barrister, on Mulgowie Street in Sunnybank in southern Brisbane around 2pm, threatened him with the weapons and took the keys to his Mercedes-Benz E400.

At 4.30pm, the vehicle was found after it crashed into a parked car in neighbouring suburb Acacia Ridge and the teens had fled on foot. 

A police helicopter spotted two of the teens escaping in a Mitsubishi Magna, driven by a fifth male, that was stolen in a separate incident on February 16.

After a pursuit, the vehicle stopped – after driving further than 80 kilometres away -  at a property in Darlington and the three teenagers were arrested and remain in police custody.

All five of the males involved, including two 16-year-olds, two 17-year-olds and an 18-year-old, have been charged with three counts of armed robbery and two counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

The teens are expected to appear in court today.
