A teenager has been taken to hospital after being shot in Melbourne's west overnight.

Armed Crime Squad detectives have established a crime scene in Caroline Springs after the shooting at Caroline Springs Boulevard, near Federation Way, about 12.15am.

An 18-year-old Kings Way was shot in the upper body and was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Detectives spoke to neighbours and people in the area as investigations continued throughout the night. Nine

Federation Way is closed to traffic while police remain at the scene investigating this morning.

"The exact circumstances are yet to be established and the investigation remains ongoing," a Victoria Police spokesperson said.
