A Sydney teenager has been charged after allegedly using his mobile phone to film up schoolgirls' skirts at a McDonald's restaurant.

The 16-year-old, who has not been named, was standing in line at the McDonald's in Castle Hill shopping centre when he saw the two girls, aged 14 and 15, and allegedly started filming up their dresses, The Sydney Morning Herald reports.

Two other female students saw the boy, and told the girls, who reported the boy to shopping centre security.

After being taken to a security office, police viewed the footage on his phone and arrested him.

He was bailed and will appear in Parramatta Children's Court on December 10.
