Teenager bitten by crocodile records scary encounter on camera

A teenage boy from Queensland has captured on a Go-Pro camera the moment a relaxing swim turned into a deadly encounter with a crocodile.

Westen Frankland was swimming with his family at a waterhole in Lawn Hill National Park near the border of the Northern Territory and Queensland when a freshwater crocodile grabbed him.

The quick-thinking 13-year-old launched himself into a nearby canoe, understandably hysterical after the surprise encounter.

While the entire attack was not captured on camera, three bite marks serve as a reminder of an incredibly close encounter.

The group paddled back to the ranger station where the Royal Flying Doctor Service was called. Westen was flown to hospital.

The teenager is now home in Murwillumbah where he recovering and recounting his gruesome story.

"I don't remember the croc being there, I just remember the mouth and all its teeth just coming at me," he said.

"It was more the shock than the pain, it's really shocked me the most."

Westen said he won't be swimming near crocodiles any time soon, and had earned the nickname "croc bait".
