Teenager in court over alleged murder of elderly man

A teenager has appeared in court charged with murdering an elderly man after throwing a rock through his windscreen.

Dan Pearson, 18, allegedly threw a rock through the windscreen of a car on Saturday as the 72-year-old male driver was travelling down a road in Mackay, in central Queensland.

He then allegedly dragged him from his car before bashing and robbing him. The elderly man died in hospital yesterday.

Pearson, who faces four charges including murder and robbery, appeared in the Mackay Magistrates Court today.

He was remanded in custody until the case is next mentioned in April.
